Dr. Marco D'Imporzano

He has a Degree in Medicine and Surgery gained at the University of Milan. Specialising in Orthopaedics and Traumatology and in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Milan, and from 2011 is the head of the new highly specialised orthopaedic centre of Istituto Auxologico Italiano, Capitanio Hospital Facility, Institute for Treatment and Research.
He formed a highly specialised surgical team for the more serious diseases in orthopaedics and traumatology with a group of orthopaedic specialists originating from various professional experiences gained at the Gaetano Pini Orthopaedic Institute, Pio X Clinic and at the University of Milan.
The operational centre for these acknowledged clinical and surgical experiences is located in the new Orthopaedics and Traumatology department of Istituto Auxologico Italiano – Capitanio Surgical Centre – situated in a very modern facility in Milan.
The following are the best known hyper specialisations: primary joint prosthetic and revision surgery, shoulder surgery and foot surgery.

INSTITUTIONAL POSITIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

Chief Physician Emeritus of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Gaetano Pini Orthopaedic Institute.
He was the Chief Physician and Head of the General Orthotraumatology Department at the same facility.
Scientific Director of the Gaetano Pini Orthopaedic Institute of Milan during the period 2010-2012.
He is currently the Chairman of the Italian College of Surgeons (CIC).
He was the Chairman of the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT) during the period 2010-2012.
A Board Member of the Italian Federation of Medical Scientific Societies (FISM), also performs consultancy functions as an expert to the Ministry of Health for the Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme.
A Member of the Board of Health while Sirchia was the Minister of Health.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

He founded the new ‘Archivio di Ortopedia e Reumatologia’ (Orthopaedics and Rheumatology Archive), a journal that began publication as ‘Archivio di Ortopedia’ (Orthopaedics Archive) in 1874, the first publication on orthopaedic sciences in Italy.
He is currently the Chairman of the Italian College of Surgeons (CIC).
He was the Chairman of the Italian Society Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT) during the period 2010-2012.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

He is a sessional lecturer at the Postgraduate Specialisation School in Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the University of Milan from 1990.
The founding member and Past President of the Italian Association of Prosthetic Revision (AIR), a scientific Association that studies the diagnosis and surgical treatment of failed joint prosthesis.
The founding member and Past President of the Italian Club of Osteosynthesis (CIO), a scientific association that studies the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic fractures.
He was the Italian Chairman of the International Association of Osteosynthesis (AO), a scientific association that studies the surgery of fractures and their treatment.
A Member of the Board of Governors of the Italian Society of Hip Surgery.

SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS

Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, the official journal, printed in English, of the Italian Society Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT).
He has to his credit more than 160 scientific publications relating to orthopaedics and traumatology in Italian and foreign journals.

SCIENTIFIC CONGRESSES AND CONFERENCES 

He has participated as a speaker and/or moderator in approximately 500 national and international scientific congresses and meetings.
He has been the Chairman of three congresses of the Italian Club of Osteosynthesis (CIO), the Chairman of one National congress of the Italian Association of Prosthetic Revision (AIR), and the Chairman of three courses organised by the International Association of Osteosynthesis (AO).
He was the Chairman of the 94th National Congress of the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT) organised in Milan in 2009.
