WORK AND CASE HISTORIES:

Head Physician of the Recovery and Functional Rehabilitation Unit, San Giuseppe Hospital, Institute for Treatment and Research (IRCCS), Piancavallo (VB): hospitalisation for integrated metabolic rehabilitation of patients suffering from a high degree of obesity. The rehabilitation programme has an average duration of 25 days and is a multidisciplinary and intensive programme and includes the following interventions: nutritional, eating re-education and motor, physiokinesitherapy (where necessary), psychological support in order to control the metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors, motor rehabilitation, correcting eating habits and lifestyle.
The Unit has more than 800 inpatients/year, monitored over time with follow-up studies (rehabilitation effectiveness is maintained after two years in approximately 70% of patients), with a Customer satisfaction level that is equal to 94%.

Head Physician of the Auxology Unit, San Giuseppe Hospital, Institute for Treatment and Research (IRCCS), Piancavallo (VB): the diagnostic care activity (short-term) and/or rehabilitation activity (25 days) is mainly structured to provide integrated treatment (dietetic, psychological, motor, eating and social re-education) of children and adolescents suffering from severe obesity (also genetic), diabetes mellitus, eating disorders, anorexia nervosa, short stature and pubertal development disorders.
The Unit includes an in-Hospital elementary and junior school facility that permits regular school attendance during the period of hospitalisation (www.scuolapiancavallo.it). There are more than 650 inpatients/year.

Head of the Centre for Growth Disorders, San Michele Hospital, Institute for Treatment and Research (IRCCS), Milan: Dr. Sartorio focusses on the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of GH deficiencies, growth and pubertal development disorders, rare and syndromic diseases. Dr. Sartorio has available highly sophisticated software for the auxological diagnosis of all ethnic groups and manages the families website: www.cresceresani.it and the youtube video channel “crescere sani”. The Centre operates in close collaboration with the most qualified national and international centres and represents a hub for Italian paediatrics, associations, social operators, teachers and parents.

  • From 1984 to the present-day: Dr. Sartorio has been responsible for more than 200 current and finalised research projects (the author of 228 journal articles, 144 journal abstracts, 55 book contributions, 122 abstracts in conference proceedings, 25 monographs or scientific treaties). Impact factor of indexed works: 498.086, H-index 25.
  • From June 2005 to the present-day: Dr. Sartorio is the coordinator of the inter-university study group of the Italian Society of Endocrinology “Ottimizzazione della performance motoria: ruolo dei fattori endocrini” (Optimising motor performance: role of endocrine factors).
  • Referee of more than 50 of the most prestigious indexed journals in the endocrine/metabolic field (including, the Journal of Endocrinology, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Clinical Endocrinology, the European Journal of Endocrinology, Obesity Research, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, International Journal of Obesity, International Journal of Pediatrics, Obesity Facts, Journal of Applied Physiology, Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases, Obesity).
